Philippians 3:1 – I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
The Lord has shown me two things that our verses from the last couple of days have in common. Both of them contain the admonition to look and to serve.
In today’s verse, the word mark, used only here in the Bible, comes from a word you hunters would like. From the root, meaning of this word comes the word scope. The implication is you use your scope on your rifle to mark your target and straighten your aim to enable you to hit the mark. The Great Apostle Paul is saying he has a mark he wants to hit.
What is important is what he says about his desire to hit his mark. He uses the word press to tell us how serious he is about it. The word press is a compound word. It encompasses the idea of serving, even the lowly spot of being an errand runner. (We get Deacon from the same word.) It also includes the idea of persecution. The Apostle is saying I want to serve my Lord at whatever capacity He chooses, even if it includes suffering in order to hit my mark.
Then notice Paul considers the prize of the high calling worth it. He is saying to hear “Well Done” from the Lord is worth it all. He is saying no matter the hardness of the assignment or the cost I will do it.
No regrets, No turning back, No holding back.
Make the same commitment today. You will be glad you dif!
Be Blessed,
Bro. Dewayne
