Our Church History

Grace Baptist Church was organized in the 1930’s to ensure that everyone would have a church to attend where the Gospel of Jesus Christ could be heard.  The Church’s first name was Common Peoples Baptist Church. Thru the years, the Church has had the privilege of having many good men of God serve as Pastor. These men have had an impact for the cause of Christ and Grace Baptist Church is grateful for their service to our Lord and the heritage left behind.

Grace Baptist Church has a long history of involvement with “God’s Great Enterprise of Reaching the World with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”  Missions is almost literally woven into every fiber of the church to the extent that Missions is a part of the church’s DNA.  Several faithful members have obeyed the call of God and given their lives in missionary service to the Lord.  A few of these people are Don and Bridgitt Dryden, Dave and Barbara Holman, and Chuck and Tammy Weber.

Under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Ron Gearis, the church was instrumental in assisting in the founding of Rock of Ages Prison Ministry.   After ten years of service, he resigned as the Pastor of the Grace Baptist Church to begin missionary service with the Rock of Ages along with his wife, Judy, and their son, Scott.  Today, Grace Baptist Church supports missions projects and missionaries around the globe.

In 1995, the church called Dewayne Jowers as Pastor. He, along with his wife, Lisa, and their three boys, Tim, Christopher, and Jonathan, moved to Baldwin and began their ministry at Grace. Pastor Jowers has led in growing the church’s commitment to missions, in order to faithfully reach the world with the gospel.

Through the years, Grace Baptist Church may have undergone changes of its name and location, but has maintained a focus on bringing glory to the Lord through helping people come to have a personal relationship with the Heavenly Father through, His Son, Jesus Christ, growing in that relationship, developing committed followers of Jesus, and reaching others with the gospel of Christ.
