1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
It takes discipline, where have we heard that before? Basically, in every area of life, someone has used this statement to explain the cost of being or becoming something. It is so true.
In our verse today, Paul is using the metaphor of the athlete. He is telling us that just as the Olympic athlete subjects his body to the grueling discipline of training everyday it takes us as believers, disciples of Jesus Christ, to DAILY FIGHT, our flesh to bring it into subjection. To bring it into the habit of thinking, living, breathing, Jesus.
Paul gives us two reasons we should go through this discipline, one and ultimately the top reason is to bring Glory to our Lord. Second, is to reach others with the life changing Gospel of Christ. Which in reality is something in and of itself that brings Glory to our Lord. Jesus loves to save sinners. Hallelujah What a Saviour! “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus” the songwriter said. He is right.
Today, right now, ask Jesus to help you discipline you, and bring all of you in subjection to Him! He Is Worthy!!!
