Psalm 63:1-2 (KJV)
1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
Here is some background of our Psalm. David is on the run. His own son, Absalom has rebelled, his own nation had forgotten their king and all he had done for them. He has gone down the road through the dry wasteland. Two priests have escaped Jerusalem with the Ark of the Covenant. They had taken it from the Sanctuary. The place of worship that David loved. David sent them back to Jerusalem with the Ark.
The Ark represents the presence of God. You may be thinking that is what David is seeking, why would he send the Ark back? It is because the Ark “symbolizes” God’s Presence. David is seeking God Himself not a symbol, but the real thing. He knows that only God, not some symbol could satisfy his soul.
All too often we substitute the artificial for the real. We live in a world that seeks to deceive us into believing that the symbols will suffice. They never do.
David was seeking the actual presence of God, not just the symbol. He knew that only our God can help us. Only God can work in us and for us.
What are you seeking? The symbol of God’s presence or the God who has Power and deserves Glory.
Be Blessed,
Bro. Dewayne
