Proverbs 4:20-23 (KJV)
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
We will continue to look at verse 23 particularly at the words “the issues.” This word is most often used with the idea of border. It is also translated with the idea of deliverance.
The picture is if we set borders or parameters in our life or standards or fences, we are protecting ourselves or we could say we are “delivering” ourselves from trouble. Where do we find out where to put up the fence or to set the standard? Verse 20 tells us when the Lord says “attend to my words.” Our Lord is telling us that His Word gives us the direction that brings deliverance.
Like a surveyor who sets the corners of a piece of property to establish ownership. The Lord wants to set the “borders” in our lives to protect us. We must hunt for those instructions and treasure them so much that we guard them. It brings to mind another verse in Psalms where the Bible says ”Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against God.”
The question today is this, Are you looking for the treasure the LORD has for you? Are you “keeping” that treasure? Are you applying the “words” to your life? Are you putting up fences around your heart to protect and deliver yourself from harm?
Start today. Get into the Word of God in order to mine the deep treasures for your life and the life of your family.
